Computer insurance
holders should be aware of the dangers of spam, it has been stated.

Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, suggested using security programmes on computers and asking internet service providers for spam filters.

Mr Neate explained that people "need to know that spam exists ... and that spam is an issue".

He noted that as well as bringing in unwanted and unsavoury adverts, spam can also carry malware in the form of viruses and Trojans.

Anti-spyware and anti-virus programmes were recommended.

The ten worst countries for spam origin, according to Spamhaus, are the US, China, the Russian Federation, South Korea and the UK.

They have known spam issues numbering 1548, 423, 309, 200 and 197 respectively.

Spamhaus is an international, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to combating spam.

According to the MessageLabs Intelligence Report for May 2008, the global ratio of spam in email traffic from new and previously unknown negative sources was 0.59 per cent.

InsureandGo offers great value computer insurance.
