A new high-speed train service running between Madrid and Barcelona will allow tourists to get between major cities and the sea more quickly, it has been claimed.
James Dearsley, European sales director for Atlas International, has said that the new 300km per hour train will have an effect on coastal regions like the Costa Calida and the Costa Blanca.
"It's much like France in August; they all go to the sea. This rail link will increase that shift of people from the cities to the coast," he explained.
He added that some people drive from the mainland to the coast and others fly, but the ease and low cost of travelling by train will probably result in an overall increase in the number of people going to the Spanish coast this summer.
The Costa Calida is located on the Murcia coast and is a popular tourist destination and enjoys a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate, with an average annual temperature of 18 C, with summer climes reaching well beyond 30 C.
