Winter sports enthusiasts might find the upcoming calendar of celebrations in Finland has something to offer them.

The traditional festival of Laskiainen takes place seven weeks before Easter and includes the Finnish equivalent of Shrove Tuesday.

With this year's event scheduled for February 6th to 8th, there may just be time left to arrange suitable travel insurance and book a flight out to Finland.

However, it is not all about eating, as winter sports also usually take place in honour of Laskiainen.

Travellers hoping to take part in some more traditional Finnish activities might want to make sure their holiday insurance covers them.

Finnish publication Helsinging Sanomat notes that reindeer play a large part in the nation's culture.

This could see holidaymakers dashing through the snow in a reindeer-pulled sleigh, or the more adventurous could choose to harness themselves up to one of the creatures for some reindeer-driven cross-country skiing.

Winter sports insurance might be a wise investment to provide suitable cover should any such activities go wrong.
