Brits are taking the time to start from scratch when carrying out home improvements, it has been claimed.
Speaking at the Totally DIY show at the Birmingham NEC, Will Parsons, editor at DIY Week, said more people are taking the decision to carry out property improvements from the bottom up, ensuring they carry out all the work themselves.
He commented: "It is about not just growing it yourself, cooking it yourself, eating it yourself; it is doing everything and making everything from scratch."
Mr Parsons added the trend has been propagated in recent years through television, with many shows urging people to get stuck in and become more self-sufficient around their property.
The Totally DIY show was held at the Birmingham NEC between February 7th and 9th 2010.
As part of the event, a conference entitled The Future of Britain's High Streets - What Does DIY Do Next? was held. It looked at the future of the industry and how more people are embracing the practice in their homes.
