Britons will continue to spurn overseas holidays in the years ahead, it has been claimed, something that could make taking out
travel insurance for a domestic break a more common occurrence.
Dennis Klett, co-founder and director of Domegos.co.uk, said that there has been an increase in the number of people looking for holiday home rentals within the UK.
He noted that when staying in the UK, individuals can make savings on travel costs as they do not have to fly, which could leave plenty of money left over for comprehensive travel insurance.
Britons taking a break can also save cash by avoiding visiting Europe, because the present strength of the euro against sterling makes travelling there more expensive, Mr Kleet added.
Research recently carried out by Travelodge revealed that the number of Brits planning an overseas trip this year has fallen to 27 per cent - down from 33 per cent in 2008.
Furthermore, 40 per cent of those choosing to holiday in the British Isles are looking to stay by the seaside, while 18 per cent plan to take a theme park break.
InsureandGo offers travel insurance for anyone thinking of staycationing in the UK this year.
