The Met Office has issued a warning to Britons of the strong possibility of heavy rainstorms in the bottom half of the country, which could affect driving conditions.

The South West, eastern Wales, eastern and central parts of England could all be affected by rains of up to 50mm, and up to 100mm in some areas.

Rains are expected to fall mainly on Friday, but also throughout the weekend, and to do so in short bursts.

Earlier this month fast, heavy rains, severely affected the northern parts of the country, in areas such as Sheffield and Hull, which were surprised by sudden floods.

Temperatures are also expected to drop rapidly in the south, down to 17 C in London.

The Met Office and the Environmental Agency are therefore warning drivers of taking extra care when on the road on Friday, as the rains could make for adverse conditions.

Particularly motorists in the West Midlands, around Birmingham, the M5/M4 corridor and the Cotswolds are urged to take extra care when driving due to the rain.

Heavy rains can affect visibility and also increase the distance it takes to stop after braking.

Drivers have been advised to check weather reports on the radio frequently when on the road.
