An inflatable sheep, an articifical leg, a gas stove and eight posters of Jonathan Ross are among the unusual items found left in hotel rooms in the UK during 2007.

Hotel chain Holiday Inn reports that other bizarre mislaid items include a glass eye, a £3,000 engagement ring and some false teeth.

In total, items worth some £750,000 were left in rooms at branches of the firm during the 12-month period.

Alexi Hakim, UK chief operating officer for Holiday Inn parent firm Intercontinental Hotels Group, comments: "You'd imagine it would be difficult to forget a glass eye or your dentures.

"And you would certainly think a person would notice he didn't have his prosthetic leg when he walked out the door, but apparently not."

Intercontinental Hotels Group also owns brands including Crowne Plaza Hotels, Staybridge Suites and Hotel Indigo.

Wherever consumers plan to stay while on holiday, they may find that they benefit from investing in a travel insurance policy from InsureandGo.
