While getting the right contents cover for their room may not be top of the list of priorities for most students, a survey from M&S Money which shows that the average student room contains contents worth £1,650 might push it further to the front of their minds.

A poll of 2,000 university attendees by M&S Money found that the average student has electrical gadgets and appliances worth around £718.

Second most valuable in the rooms were clothes, with students having a wardrobe worth an average of nearly £500.

And not forgetting why students are at university in the first place, the research suggests that students have an average of £210 worth of textbooks in their bedrooms.

The survey revealed that 14 per cent of students get burgled while away at university, with nearly 25 per cent of those with bikes reporting having them stolen at some point.

In related news, research from Sainsbury's suggests that children's Halloween parties cost as much as £5,000 in damage and that parents should check their home insurancecover.
