A growing number of students are taking on part-time jobs during term time in an effort to cover the costs of course fees, accommodations and living expenses.

Such is the suggestion of Halifax after research showed that nearly half (48 per cent) of all undergraduates are working through their studies.

Meanwhile, nearly a fifth (18 per cent) have taken on two or more jobs to cover their outgoings.

University attendees from Northern Ireland were found to be the most likely to have sought out employment during their studies, with 64 per cent of people questioned from this region saying they have done so.

Meanwhile, 33 per cent of Welsh students said they were working during term to keep costs under control

Mike Regnier, head of banking at Halifax, noted: "It is vital that students make the most of the finances at this crucial point in their lives and choosing the right bank account needs to be a key consideration for them."

Elsewhere, data published by the firm in July indicated that school fees are currently rising at more than twice the rate of inflation.

InsureandGo offers robust home insurance options for students looking to protect their possessions.
