Although the summer months have only recently passed, it is not too early to think about how to make a saving on next year's break, the Telegraph has suggested.

Writing for the paper, Sophie Butler pointed out that while financial forecasts are less than optimistic, the majority of Brits still value their summer getaway highly and would rather cut back than do without.

"Holidays are traditionally the last thing to go – it takes a lot to stop people going abroad," explained travel expert Joseph Thomas, noting that many people are opting for package vacations in order to make a saving.

In order to get the best deals on such products, the paper urged people to book early, with many competitors vying for sales during the Autumn period.

Meanwhile, savings can also be made by being flexible with the dates of travel. The Telegraph noted that off-season periods in June and September are often substantially cheaper.

For those who cannot wait to get away as the autumn sets in, the paper suggested that the Loire in France looks beautiful in October - and is cheap to boot.
