Travel agents in the southern area of Manchester have reported a substantial upswing in holidaymakers looking to get out of the UK, according to local newspaper the South Manchester Reporter.
Some travel agents even reported that they were taking up to 40 per cent more bookings in this month compared to the same period last year.
The weather has been largely to blame, as many areas of the UK have been flooded in recent weeks and as rains continue.
Last year, on the other hand, had been one of the country's warmest summers.
'We've had families coming in saying they normally go to Cornwall or Wales, but now they're thinking they'd hate the idea of spending a wet week in a caravan, when they could be sunning themselves abroad,' said Fred Walker, manager of Home and Continental Travel, to the South Manchester Reporter.
Other travel agents also reported that people were 'fed up' with the continuous rains and were looking for a last minute travel deal to get out of the country for a few weeks.
Didsbury Worldwide Travel reported a 30 per cent rise in last-minute package holidays.
