Swedish officials have given plans to create the world's largest wooden moose the green light.
Known as an elk in North America, the 148 ft high animal will stand on top of a mountain in the north of Sweden and will be able to serve as a restaurant and concert hall that can seat up to 250 visitors.
People visiting the site following its completion will be able to enjoy views of the surrounding valleys from the elk's antlers after entering the moose through a lift in a giant pine tree next to the animal.
The moose is to be called Stoorn, which translates as "the Big One" in a local dialect.
"We have so much to offer up here, with all our cheeses, the gold of Lapland and so much more besides. I think Stoorn will help us attract lots of international tourism," planner Thorbjorn Holmlund told the Local.
Construction work is expected to begin before the end of 2007.
People planning a trip to Sweden may also enjoy established attractions such as the Cosmonova planetarium or the fortified town of Birka.
