Students who intend to take their car to university need to take a number of precautions to make sure its protected, Defaqto has advised.
The group points out that undergrads will need to inform their
car insurance provider of their new address, as well as their parking situation.
Meanwhile, the students will also need to give updated details to the DVLA, Defaqto warns.
Mike Powell, principal consultant at the general insurance division of Defaqto, says: "If you are intending to take your car to university, you need to ensure that your insurer is informed of where your car will be parked."
He added that failing to do so could leave people with an invalidated policy should they need to make a claim.
Meanwhile, Legal & General has urged those heading off to university to be mindful of the fact that they may be at a higher risk of being burgled.
