Tea-tasting tours could boost tourist numbers to India, in the same way that wine-tasting is popular in Europe, according to tourism officials.
Ambika Soni, tourism and culture minister, said at ITB Berlin recently: "There are plans to develop tea-tasting circuits similar to the wine-tasting tours offered in Europe and elsewhere.
The tourism department is devising new and innovative ways of attracting visitors to India, including holding international conferences and offering tourism breaks which cater to different needs.
Ms Soni said: "Current efforts to diversify tourist attractions by offering new products such as adventure tourism, wellness tourism, medical tourism and golf tourism will have a positive effect on foreign tourist arrivals, as well as on domestic tourism."
Last year, visitor numbers recorded double-digit growth every month, but Indian tourism officials are hoping to increase this growth in the next few years.
