UK animal owners have been advised of the need to have comprehensive
pet insurance in place, as technological advances in veterinary medicine mean many treatments are becoming more expensive.
Ian Moffat, Petplan's head of operations, said advancements in medicine now mean vets are able to treat sick or injured pets that simply would not have survived ten years ago. However, it is important to remember these treatments do not come cheap.
He commented: "These new treatment methods and drugs all come at a cost and that is why having pet insurance is so important."
Mr Moffat added owners can minimise trips to the vet by ensuring their pet has a healthy diet and gets plenty of exercise.
According to figures from the Pet Food Manufacturers Association, there are about eight million pet dogs in the UK, spread throughout six million households.
In addition, approximately eight million pet cats are in the UK, spread throughout 5.2 million households.
InsureandGo offers comprehensive pet insurance for UK animal lovers to get cover for their furry friends.
