Minister for the Olympics and London Tessa Jowell will address a summit organised by Visit London and highlight the environmental challenges faced by tourism.

The summit will be attended by more than 200 of the tourism industry leaders, and will also feature interventions from Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London organising committee for the Olympic and Paralympic games, and Eurostar chief executive Richard Brown.

Visit London, which organised the meeting, is the official tourist organization for London and aims to promote travel and tourism to the capital.

The impact in tourism of the 2012 Olympics, and its possible impact in turn on the environment and climate change will be the two main topics that will be addressed at the summit.

'As we continue to focus on London 2012 we cannot lose sight of the most important issue affecting our world and our businesses: climate change.

'Action is required across all industries and future economic growth must be secured on a sustainable basis,' said Visit London chief executive James Bidwell.

Tessa Jowell, in comments made before she will address the summit, backed Mr Bidwell's comments and expressed her support for 'Visit London's moves to set the direction on the future of tourism and how we all want London to be in 2016 and beyond'.
