France's largest region is famous for its gastronomy, according to the Midi-Pyrenees Regional Tourism Committee, but it can offer tourists something different and "really special".
It seems the region's secret is out, with 449,698 passengers travelling through the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport during January 2010, representing an increase of 1.7 per cent compared to the same period the year before.
As the area is set in the Pyreneesian Mountains, visitors may want to cover themselves and purchase
travel insurance before they start climbing any hills.
Solenne Odon, marketing, communication and press agent for Great Britain and Ireland at the region's tourism board, believes the dialect, history, scenery and culinary excellence of the Midi-Pyrenees gives it a unique appeal.
"[There are many] natural sites to discover if you go for a walk. Near Rodez, we have the viaduct which is really famous because it is the highest bridge in the world. It is really nice," she said.
