One insurance analyst has asserted that it can be beneficial to opt for comprehensive pet insurance cover.

Damian Clarkson argues on Everyinvestor.co.uk that when searching for pet insurance, the higher-priced deals will have fewer exclusions on the terms of coverage.

He also advises dog-owners to check whether policies cover for behavioural events, such as damage to property or injury to another person.

Mr Clarkson suggests that it is also important to "shop around" for the right insurance policy.

"Each policy depends greatly on you [and] your pet's individual circumstances and the type of cover you're after.

"If you are in the market for pet insurance, make sure you take a few minutes to compare policies online," he stated.

He also argued because pet insurance premiums will vary considerably depending on the type and needs of individual animals, it is important to find the quote that is best suited to each pet.

The UK Insurance Index also advises pet-owners to consider policy excesses and check multiple suppliers to find the best deal.

InsureandGo's pet insurance policies are competitively priced and are specifically designed to protect against high medical bills.
