An exclusive resort in a secluded region on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago has affirmed that it is to open for business in September 2008.

Purpose-built by award-winning architect Denton Corker Marshall, the Culloden Reef Resort in Tobago promises to be one of the most spectacular tourist locations for years to come on the island that inspired Daniel Defoe's castaway classic, Robinson Crusoe.

Set within 148 acres of old plantation estate, the resort is enclosed by lush rainforest and in 18 months' time will offer panoramic views, plush villas, swimming pools as well as previously hidden beaches to cater for the higher end of the tourist market.

In a tropical climate, which maintains temperatures ranging between 23 and 32 degrees all year round, travellers to the island can partake in a variety of water sports such as windsurfing and jet skiing but due to its commitment to sustainable tourism, visitors can also partake in diving and snorkelling safaris as well as nature walks in the surrounding woodland.

The resort is located 35 km from the island's main international airport, which is served by Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow.
