Dubai is becoming one of the fastest growing cities in the world as many tourists flock to the emirate's capital, according to the Association of British Travel Agents(Abta).

Spokesperson for the group Frances Tuke asserted that by ploughing continuing investment into the tourism industry, the city has been transformed from a desert state to a rapidly expanding city.

Ms Tuke added that for tourists, Dubai almost exclusively provides four and five star accommodation and services, with substantial property investment resulting in the construction of the world's most expensive hotels.

"Dubai is really four and five star upwards when it comes to its tourism offering," she suggested.

The Abta representative also suggested that long-haul destinations are becoming increasingly popular among UK tourists because they offer both a taste of the exotic and excellent tourism facilities.

A recent report from the World Travel and Tourism Council has shown that Middle Eastern holiday markets are outstripping growth in other destinations throughout the Americas and Europe.

InsureandGo offers travel insurance policies to suit holidays in destinations the world over.
