Croatia's tourism industry showed signs of improvement for the first eight months of this year, The Independent has reported.

According to Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, 8.2 million tourists visited Croatia between January and August 2010, accounting for 51.7 million overnight stays.

"Compared with the (same period) last year the number of overnight stays increased six per cent and the number of (tourist) arrivals three per cent," she commented.

The country's Adriatic coast was reportedly the most popular destination for tourists, the majority of whom were visiting from Germany and Austria.

Croatia's Tourism Minister, Damir Bajs, also predicted that the country will welcome a further two million visitors by the end of this year.
