Plans are in place for an expansive art gallery to be established in the Indian state of Orissa, it has emerged.

The facility will house pieces by prominent artists from across the state and would also provide a cutting-edge location for hosting exhibitions, cultural events and other activities, according to the Hindu.

Currently there are two other galleries in the city, Orissa Modern Art Gallery and Rashtriya Lalit Kala Kendra's regional centre.

Planned to be called the Utkal Art Gallery, the facility will be the largest in Orissa and is also expected to be a hit with tourists, especially given its location in the state capital of Bhubaneswar.

Exisiting attractions in the city include the Lingaraj Temple, the Dhauli Girl monument and the twin hills of Khandagiri and Udayagiri.
