Polar bears and beluga whales are among the species that tempt consumers to visit the subarctic region of Manitoba in central Canada.
Churchill, with a population of some 900 people, sits on the edge of Hudson Bay and Halloween is the height of polar bear season in the region, reports the Canadian Press.
Visitors are able to take part in expeditions on the prairies of up to three days in length in tundra buggies.
Local guide John Gunter remarks on the powerful quality of coming face to face with a polar bear while taking tourists out on his vehicle: "When this 1,000-pound creature is leaning up on the side of a buggy and he's staring you in the eye, that's powerful stuff.
"We look like a big human sandwich and they're hungry - they haven't eaten in about four months - so they see if they can eat us," he explains.
Late spring sees the arrival of beluga whales to the region, when tourists can view them from boats, kayak or snorkel with them.
Manitoba's other attractions include the cities of Winnipeg and Wapusk National Park.
