People travelling overseas should take out
travel insurance to cover any unexpected occurrences, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has suggested.
This follows news that anyone wanting to visit Cuba will be required to show documentation proving they have travel insurance with medical cover before they enter the country.
Ian Bradley, spokesman for AITO, said it was especially important to have insurance.
"Many countries regularly update advice for travellers and insurance is just one of the ever changing variables. A good travel agent or tour operator will be able to assist and point you in the right direction," he added.
Over 30 per cent of Brits have already booked their main holiday for 2010, but nearly 60 per cent admit they have not organised travel insurance.
Despite this, around 8.5 million travellers admit they have required medical assistance on a previous overseas trip.
