Terrorist attacks and natural disasters have not done enough to scare holidaymakers away from the US, according to new figures.
Statistics out from the US department of commerce revealed that the tourism industry is currently healthy, with tourism-related sales up to $1.2 trillion (£600 billion) last year.
In February, some 2.9 million people visited the States up nine per cent on the same month in the previous year.
Similarly, tourists in the US spent an estimated $108 billion last year five per cent more than the previous record which had been set in 2000.
And the strong performance shows no signs of letting up.
David A Sampson, commerce deputy secretary, said: "The US remains a popular tourist destination for international visitors and the industry is breaking records."
He said that US travel and tourism is set to carry the momentum of strong performance from the end of 2006 into 2007.
