Conscience-stricken traffic wardens have blown the whistle on the dodgy practices of their profession, although the 'revelations' will not surprise many drivers.

Wardens employed by the UK's biggest parking enforcement company, NCP, who went on strike over poor conditions last month, said they are set ticket quotas.

NCP warden Francis Fourdjour was told that he had to issue at least 12 tickets a day, he told AutoExpress.

"We used to give drivers a bit of lee-way," he said. "If we saw someone parking on the edge of a double yellow line, we'd point it out. Not now - we simply wait, then ticket them."

Mr Fourdjour, one of 70 staff members to go on a five day strike, said that he and his colleagues are increasingly being attacked by enraged motorists.

Strong-arm tactics were being used to bully staff who complain about the underhanded tactics, he added.

"Our pay cut was from £11 an hour to £7 in some cases. So extra shifts are crucial. But if the fines you issue don't hit double figures, you are off the overtime roster."
