Employees taking time out from work to travel could really help businesses, it has been claimed.
Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet, said the present economic situation could mean employers would welcome taking a person off the payroll for a few months while they explore the world.
He commented: "There are things you can do while you are away which are going to help you, particularly if you do something around languages or something vocational whilst you're travelling."
According to First Rate Exchange Services, the 18 to 24 age group is the most likely to embark on international travel, with 64 per cent planning a holiday in 2010.
This compares to just 54 per cent of the 35-44 year olds, for many of whom holidaying with children may prove to be a luxury they can't afford this year.
