New research has suggested that tour operators for both leisure and business travel remain confident about commercial performance despite the wider economic impact of the credit crunch.

Travel technology and distribution system firm Amadeus reports that those supplying the business travel sector were particularly optimistic, with 44 per cent stating that sales had been unaffected by global economic constraints.

However, 31 per cent of leisure operators did feel that the looming recession in the US had resulted in adverse trading conditions in the UK.

Of those who said that they had been affected, 30 per cent said that they had seen a drop of between 10 and 19 per cent, Travel Weekly reports.

A further 31 per cent said that business had dropped between five and nine per cent.

Amadeus director of marketing Elaine Seeto said: "It is heartening that confidence remains high among the travel agency community despite the doom and gloom of recent headlines."

A recent Travel Weekly article has also suggested that economic concerns are encouraging a growing number of people to opt for all-inclusive holidays.
