Anyone considering a holiday has been advised that the most important thing to pack is
travel insurance.
The Independent reported that the top priority for anybody heading on an overseas excursion is taking out comprehensive travel insurance to cover against possible medical costs or the loss of belongings while overseas.
It claimed that not taking out travel insurance for a trip - as 41 per cent of people did last year, according to figures from the Foreign Office - is just asking for trouble.
"You also need to make sure your insurance company has a link with a reputable medical assistance company with an emergency line. And when you're travelling in Europe, always carry your European Health Insurance Card, or EHIC," Doctor Jane Wilson-Howarth told the paper.
The Telegraph's Sophie Butler recently warned those taking out travel cover to beware of the small print.
She noted that individuals should read their policy thoroughly and ensure they do not do anything that could invalidate the deal.
InsureandGo offers travel insurance to help cover the costs of medical expenses for overseas travellers.
