UK tourists taking a trip to the Channel Islands from next month must have
travel insurance, it has been announced.
As of April 1st, travellers from Britain will not be entitled to free treatment for any illness or injury suffered while on holiday in the area.
For more than 30 years, there has been an agreement between the UK and the islands about free healthcare, which also covered those travelling from the islands to mainland Britain.
Under the scheme, certain medical treatments - such as ambulance travel and some hospital care - was free.
Now, travellers are being urged to get the right travel insurance as the agreement runs out on March 31st.
The Channel Islands include Guernsey, Jersey, Sark, Alderney and Herm.
Figures from Expedia recently published on the Telegraph show that online searches for the islands have gone up by 101 per cent when compared to this time last year.
