Britons should make sure that their
travel insurance covers the most expensive items they take on holiday, new research has advised.
According to data from Halifax Travel, Britons are the subject of 1.4 million thefts a year while on holiday.
And the typical beach bag of a British traveller can contain over £1,000 worth of items, it was further indicated.
It is no longer a case of taking a book to the beach - British holidaymakers are increasingly taking more expensive items with them, such as mobile phones mp3 players, digital cameras and designer sunglasses.
Related research revealed that close to 40 per cent of holiday crime committed against Brits took place in Spain, the most popular beach destination for UK travellers, drawing 14 million every year.
Paul Birkehead of Halifax Travel advised travellers to remain vigilant of their possessions while on holiday so as not to become victims of beach thieves.
'However while you can minimise the risks you can never eliminate them, which is why having travel insurance is so important when you're abroad,' he added.
