Travel insurance should be taken out the moment a holiday is purchased, the Post Office advised on Thursday.
The increasing number of UK holidaymakers booking their travel insurance at the last minute - or not at all - has led the Post Office to recommend buying insurance the 'moment' people book their holidays.
According to research from the Post Office, 47 per cent of people admitted having been on holiday without travel insurance.
And 46 per cent of that total argued the reason they had chosen not to take out insurance was because it was a waste of money and they didn't need it.
A further 12 per cent said the cost had put them off, while 14 per cent indicated that they had simply forgotten.
"It's essential to take out insurance the moment you book your holiday. Leaving it until the day before you travel will offer you no cover should your holiday be cancelled," said John Howells, head of travel at the Post Office.
