People seeking to travel abroad want to go to places with a good exchange rate for the pound, it has been stated.

Research by consumer and business money service Travelex has found that customers are becoming more financially aware when deciding on a holiday destination.

Julian Neal, global marketing director for Travelex retail, said that customers are now "twice as likely to travel to America as before" due to the favorable exchange rate.

The research found that 43 per cent of people are more likely to visit the USA to take advantage of the strength of the pound.

Consumers are also turning to buying currency online to find better deals.

Travelex's online sales have increased by 35 per cent over the past quarter from the same period a year ago.

Other destinations benefiting from good currencies are Turkey and South Africa.

According to research by the Post Office, released in April, the pound is worth nearly 17 per cent less against the euro than a year before.

InsureandGo offers cost-effective travel insurance options to protect belongings while holidaymakers are abroad.
