With many airliners implementing pricing policies that can leave holidaymakers facing additional charges for things like baggage and check-in charges, it has been suggested that people should stop using an operator if they are unhappy.
Peter Morris, chief economist at consultancy firm Ascend, has said that until consumers express their dissatisfaction with a boycott of tour operators, additional charges will remain in place.
He said that until bottom lines are affected, airlines will only pay lip service to reducing the impact of the pricing strategies.
"Ultimately if you confuse people or appear to mislead them then they will vote with their feet and they will go somewhere else," Mr Morris suggested.
His comments come following a recent report by Holiday Which? that indicated that consumers may see the costs of flights rise by up to £28 on the headline prices when booking with budget airlines. Ryanair was found to have the most expensive costs for additional services.
