Going on a trip away without the right travel insurancecould see holidaymakers facing "enormous costs", it has been claimed.

John Boyles, from Endsleigh Insurance, said that travelling without cover was incredibly risky, calling those who do it "crazy", reports Go Travel Insurance.

He said that some people were under the impression that they would be covered for medical problems while away under reciprocal health arrangements - but in truth these may only go some way to protecting travellers and may not insure against all eventualities.

Mr Boyles also pointed out that it was important to check that travel insurance policies cover against any activities you may plan to do while away, such as skydiving or bungee-jumping.

In related news, a recent survey from Kayak detailed strange items left on flights - including glass eyes and a stuffed badger.

Respondents were also asked who their dream travel companion was, with 41 per cent of people choosing George Clooney, reports La Manga.

InsureandGo offer several types of travel insurance cover.
