Movie tourism has transformed the fortunes of a number of locations around the world - notably New Zealand, which provided the backdrop to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Now Morocco is in line for a tourism boost as its deserts become reinvented as the sands of time itself for the upcoming cinematic release Prince of Persia.
The film sees Jake Gyllenhaal in the title role as Persian Prince Dastan, with the 'Persia' of the film actually portrayed using the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.
Short break and tour operator Inntravel suggests following in the footsteps of the stars, rather than the characters, by heading not to the real-life former location of Persia, but to the Moroccan locations featured in the film.
"The film's stunning backdrop - minus the sandstorms - is set to encourage viewers to follow in Prince Dastan's footsteps," the company predicts.
Guidance from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office recommends comprehensive
travel insurance for visitors to Morocco, with 33 of the 419,000 UK visitors to the country in 2007 requiring hospital treatment.
InsureandGo can provide
