Tourists in the UK are advised against all but necessary travel to Bangladesh in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Reshmi.

The storm is around ten nautical miles from Dhaka in the Bay of Bengal and is expected to hit land sometime today (October 27th).

Foreign Office travel advice urges those in the region to avoid any travel, unless it is essential, to the Chittagong Hill Tracts and says that those who do intend to go to this region should give the Bangladeshi authorities ten days' notice of plans.

Statistics from the Foreign Office show that as many as 75,000 British nationals visit Bangladesh every year with most of those who require consular assistance having trouble with issues to do with forced marriage or passports.

Those intending to travel to places where weather conditions can be unpredictable should always make sure they invest in the correct level of travel insurancecover.

Earlier this year, UK holidaymakers had to be evacuated from Florida after Tropical Storm Fay battered the area.
