An Eastern European survey has revealed that Turkey is growing in popularity and becoming a top choice among holidaymakers.

The poll, conducted by Bulgaria's state agency for tourism asked holidaymakers visiting Turkey about the destinations that appealed to them, reports local newspaper the Sofia Echo.

Close to 20 per cent of all holidaymakers said Turkey was their favourite choice, ahead of perennial favourites such as Spain and Italy.

The poll also asked tourists to name their favourite activities while abroad on holiday.

Over two-thirds of respondents said lying on a beach would be their choice, although many also opted for seeing the local sights and shopping.

It was mostly relaxing activities that were chosen by the Eastern European country's visitors as their favourites while abroad, with reading and watching television also getting a significant proportion of votes.

Turkey's candidature to join the EU, as well as its Europeanized culture is making it an increasingly attractive option for tourists, and property investment from abroad is also surging due to the country's popularity.

Even if you are only lying on the beach, you will still need travel insurance, check online or call InsureandGo for some great value deals.
