Checking the condition of tyres on a motorbike is one safety step that riders should follow before hitting the roads this spring.

Taking the time to ensure a motorcycle is in full working order before heading out on the open road is an important step for any rider. It could help to ensure that a motorbike insurance claim is not invalidated should an accident occur.

Ensuring that both tyres are in good condition is an integral part of the checks that bikers should carry out. Therefore, the Institute of Advanced Motorists and TyreSafe have teamed up to call on experienced riders to promote tyre safety among all motorcyclists.

"By conducting a few simple checks, bikers can increase their safety on the roads, helping to prevent accidents caused by defective tyres," said Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe.

The warning comes as part of this years' Bike Tyre Safety Month, which has been running throughout April.

Steps bikers can take to help ensure their tyres are in good working order include gauging pressure, checking for cuts or bulges on the surface and ensuring treads have not worn away.

InsureandGo can provide riders looking to update their motorcycle insurance policy with a great deal before they head out on the roads this spring.
