Bike riders are half as likely to drink and drive as other road users, a new study has shown.
Research carried out by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) has revealed that following an accident, 1.4 per cent of motorbike riders failed a breathalyser test, compared to 2.7 per cent of other road users.
Sheila Rainger, MCI director of communications, said: "The demands of riding a motorcycle are greater than those of driving a car and it is good to see the majority of motorcyclists recognising this fact by refusing to mix drinking and riding."
The MCI was recently formed following the merger of two UK motorcycling bodies - the Motor Cycle Industry Trainers Association and Motorcycle Rider Training.
It will now be responsible for all motorcycle training in the UK and will represent the interests of bikers to the government and other official bodies.
