The Foreign Office has announced that a British holidaymaker was among those injured in a bomb blast in Thailand earlier this week.

Seven people were injured when the bomb blew up in the Yala region of the popular holiday destination.

The Foreign Office has advised Britons to steer clear of the area, unless on essential travel, with particular warnings against travelling through Yala, as well as Pattani, Songkla and Narathiwat, due to the violence, "insurgency and civil unrest".

An official state of emergency has been declared by the Thai government in these areas.

Demonstrations will be taking place in Bangkok on May 30th and 31st and the Foreign Office has warned British nationals to steer clear of these.

Advice from the Foreign Office said: "There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Thailand.

"Attacks could be indiscriminate and against civilian targets in public places, including those places frequented by foreigners.

"If you are visiting or resident in Thailand you should exercise caution at all times."
