Taking a holiday in the UK allows greater control over spending, according to the British Resorts & Destinations Association (BRADA).
Commenting recently, a spokesperson for the organisation said that by staying in budget accommodation and not flying, travellers could look to make considerable savings.
Peter Hampson, director of the BRADA, said: "Although UK holidays are perceived to be expensive, the reality is that they are far more controllable because your spending is easier to control."
However, he added that as always, the main contributing factor to whether or not people choose to holiday within the UK is the weather, explaining that while no one minds a couple of days or showers, but sustained poor conditions can make holidays such as camping difficult.
According to the UK Tourism Survey 2006, 79.2 million domestic holidays were taken during the course of the year, with total spending reaching £13.6 billion.
