Holidaymakers looking to save money on travel insurance and other costs by taking a domestic break could consider some of the UK's "alternative lake districts".

An article in the Daily Mail notes that as well as the Lake District itself, there are many other parts of the UK which offer tourists the chance to see picturesque bodies of water.

The source notes that Rutland Water "brings a bracing feel of the seaside to landlocked middle England" and could be ideal for those who enjoy walking, sailing or rock climbing.

However, taking part in such activities may mean that Brits need to check their holiday insurance policy for the right amount of cover.

As well as Rutland Water, the newspaper recommends that those planning on visiting Elan Valley in Wales do so in autumn.

This "cluster of five man-made lakes and dams" boasts natural beauty and "awesome engineering", the source notes, commenting that for "lots of water and noise over the dams", October is an ideal time to visit.

Domestic breaks are set to surge in popularity, with London mayor Boris Johnson recently launching a campaign aimed at attracting visitors to the capital's attractions.

Holiday insurance from InsureandGo can help cover any problems which occur on a domestic break or a trip abroad.
