Millions of UK residents will take to the roads this weekend to take advantage of the bank holiday on Monday June 26th, according to
car insurance provider esure.
The group predicts that as many as 14.6 million people will travel, with 36 per cent of respondents to its recent study suggesting that they plan on taking a beach break over the three day weekend.
However, the firm reports that around 1.4 million of those who travelled on the last May bank holiday weekend may have been put off by delays and will look to stay at home instead.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said: "Travel delays are expected over any Bank Holiday weekend but the worst place to be is stuck is in a traffic jam where there's no escape."
He urged those planning to check their vehicle thoroughly before doing so, as well as planning their route before setting off.
Elsewhere, Flight Centre last month urged British tourists to make the most of the upcoming holiday by booking a trip abroad.
