Parents are likely to think twice before travelling by aeroplane this summer, parenting advice website raisingkids.co.uk has said.

The comments came after the publication on the web of a new table ranking UK airports by delay times, which showed the lengthy journey travellers will face these holidays from check-in to plane.

At an airport such as Luton, said website ukairportdelays.co.uk, the complete journey round the airport could take as much as 132 minutes.

"After this summer parents may think twice about going away by plane, given how long the queues are – in and out of the country. Particularly if you've got small children and babies, those can be absolutely nightmarish," said Catherine Healey, editor of raisingkids.co.uk.

Nearby countries that are only a couple of hours away should be the preferred choice by parents this summers as long-haul flights are usually avoided by parents, she added.

The cost of travelling abroad as well as having to endure a long plane journey alongside the toddlers is also driving families to increasingly consider holidaying within the UK.
