People in the UK seem to be increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of their surroundings, with a recent survey showing that more than 30 per cent of people say there has been a rise in street crime in their area since they moved there.

A poll from LV shows that a further 28 per cent of people say they feel unsafe when walking through their neighbourhood at night.

One in three people throughout Britain also said that they thought their place of residence had become a generally worse place to live since they moved in, with half of people surveyed from the south saying they felt this.

People could get some extra reassurance by making sure they have the right level of home insuranceto cope with the financial cost of a break in, as well as considering car insuranceto provide cover in the event of a theft or any damage.

Virgin Money recently warned that as houses this time of year are "packed with piles of festive presents", it was important to check that home insurance covers the added value to the home contents.

InsureandGo offer both home insurance and car insurance.
