UK tourists have been reassured over the impact of Greek forest fires by Hatta, the association of Greek travel agents.

Its counterpart organization in the UK, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) passed on the group's message that "all national roads are fully accessible, all archeological sites and museums are open to visitors, and hotels and resorts are not affected and are operating as usual".

Fires have been raging for a full week now, and are affecting particularly the southern part of the country.

The Peloponnese peninsula in that southern area has been worst affected, as well as the surrounding areas near Athens and the island of Evvia.

So far, at least 64 fatalities have been reported as a a result of the forest blazes.

The government has been forced to bring in fire fighters from abroad to help stop the fires from spreading.

For anyone concerned for relative, the UK Foreign Office has set up a telephone number of inquiry: 020 7008 1500.
