Despite the present low prices of property in the US, Brits have been advised to wait before taking the plunge and making a purchase.

Andrew Bartlett, owner of Andrew Bartlett Florida, said the property market is unlikely to post significant rises over the short term and it is therefore better to wait and err on the side of caution for the time being.

He commented: "I think Brits should be concerned if they are investing anywhere overseas. The US prices are based on the average selling price of a property so therefore the statistics are not what they appear anyway."

According to the latest Standard & Poor/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices, US property prices in the ten-city composite average were down by 0.2 per cent in December 2009 in comparison to November 2009 and by 2.4 per cent compared to December 2008.

However, Clear Capital recently reported that US house prices recorded an annual increase in January 2010 for the first time in 37 months.
