People giving their loved one an expensive gift this Valentine's Day should make sure the item is covered under the terms of their insurance, according to Co-operative Insurance (CIS).
The firm advises that around ten per cent of all marriage proposals this year will occur today, as many take advantage of the romantic tradition of St. Valentine.
The average cost of an engagement ring is now around £1,500, CIS asserts.
Only around 35 per cent of people have the correct possessions cover and only 12 per cent of people have added expensive items to their insurance policy.
"Unfortunately many people don't realise that they don't have personal possessions cover until it's too late. Our advice is to check your cover before going down on bended knee," advises CIS spokesperson James Hillon.
The news follows a recent statement by hitched.co.uk asserting that it is also advisable for couples to take out adequate
travel insurance before taking a romantic trip.
