Those people travelling with valuable items should look to check that they are covered by their travel insurance policy in the event of loss, theft or damage.

Such is the assertion of Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, who has said that a comprehensive home insurance policy may also provide cover.

He also advised that in some circumstances, it may be worth considering insuring items individually.

"It's a question of checking your policy and checking if you have cover for items outside of the home under your household policy," Mr Tarling explained.

He concluded by stating that it is always sensible to check the terms of a policy before travelling to ensure that adequate cover is available should expensive items go missing or get damaged.

A recent study by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance has found that as many as one in ten people travelling abroad could be doing so without travel cover.

InsureandGo offers a range of coverage options for those looking to travel with the assurance provided by effective travel insurance.
